The event kicks-off on Friday evening, July 4th, from 5-7 pm with an early buying and cocktail party under the big tents on the museum grounds. Featuring our famous hors d'oeuvres (catered by friends of the Sharon Daycare Center) and plenty to whet your whistle, the evening will be a feast for the eyes and the palate. A special feature of Friday's party will be the "Silent Auction" tent, which will showcase a select group of the crème de la crème of the sales items. The fifth annual Open Your Eyes Studio Tour to be held June 28 & 29, 2014 in Torrington, Harwinton, and Burlington, CT, will feature the artistic talent in the rural northwest corner of Connecticut. The artists and artisans will open their creative spaces and processes to the public during the day on Saturday and Sunday. Easy, great for all ages, and the route is absolutely lovely.
Each year the Northwest Connecticut Arts Council selects groups of towns within its 25-town service area to for the tour. The event has drawn audiences from 14 states, with many visitors returning to the event each year. The aim of Open Your Eyes Studio Tour & Showcase is to shine a light on the many artists who live and work in our region, to give the community a greater understanding and appreciation for the arts and the creative process, and to draw attention to the towns in which these artists live and work.
The Northwest Connecticut Arts Council is a non-profit organization devoted to promoting the arts and cultural resources of northwestern Connecticut. The Council considers that arts and culture are integral contributors to the quality of life in the region. The Council focuses on assisting artists and cultural organizations in their efforts to thrive, and on informing the public, and giving access to the arts across the region.

THE SALISBURY FORUM PRESENTS: DRUGS, GUNS, REDEMPTION & EDWARD SNOWDEN

In this program, you will get to see a series of five, 8-minute documentary films conceived, researched, scripted, filmed and edited by students from area high schools, addressing issues for which these young people feel a personal passion.
Drugs; why do so many young people fall prey to them? Where do they find them? How do they feel about being hooked? Guns; an exploration of gun control and mass shootings in America. Sexual Assault; the impact of a rape incident on a small local community. Redemption; when one has done unspeakable things, how is it still possible to turn a life around?
These and a fifth film concerning the broader implications of the Edward Snowden leaks provide a rare window into the minds of our teens and demonstrate their incisive ability to grapple with some of today's knottiest problems, and become the citizens we can entrust with the world of tomorrow.
Following each film, the audience will have the opportunity to participate in Q & A with the filmmakers. What spurred their interest in a subject? What they learned from the experience. Where they come out emotionally once the project was done.
